On May 8, Scoil Maelruain and St. Josephs B.N.S. clashed in Croke Park in the Corn Marino
final. Both teams had already met in the earlier stages of the competition, Joseph's winning by quite a margin. However, this meant nothing, as Maelruain's had improved greatly over the past few weeks. Anyway, the two sides were ready to get the match underway. The match started with Joey's scoring an early goal and then an exchange of scores from both of the teams captains, Mark Lambert [Maelruain's], and Brian Flannery
[Joey's]. Then Joeys began to pull away, and had a good five point lead at half time. The first half had seen surprisingly good play from both sides.

However, in the second half, nobody could stop Mark Lambert scoring, and brought the score back up to an even level. The
St. Joseph's forward line should have wrapped up the game but they were not on top form and they missed a lot of easy shots. Brian Flannery again played very well scoring a lot of good frees and 65s. There were a few substitutions in the second half on both teams Cathal Conroy, Ronan Hennesy and Eoin Carroll.

But at the end of the second half time the teams were level 1-11 to 2-8. It then went into extra time. Each extra time half lasted 5 minutes. Scoil Melruain scored a point. But in the second half Joeys got the crucial three points they needed.

Man of the match would have to go to Mark Lambert who scored all of his team's points and goals but even an amazing individual performance could not stop St. Joseph's from winning
